These machines are used for pain relief during childbirth. TENS stands for 'Transcutaneous Electronic Nerve Stimulation'. These machines are powered by a 9 volt battery, and send a pulse to 2 sets of 2 electrode pads that are attached to the patient. These signals pass through the pads to the skin and block pain signals travelling through the body to tthe brain, thus providing pain releif.
